Nordis, Faktabaari and the University of Helsinki organize a course on Disinformation and digital information literacy for the third time

The Finnish fact-checking organisation Faktabaari and University of Helsinki have designed a course to educate future media professionals in DIL and fact-checking in the course Disinformation and Digital Information Literacy. This course has been designed and conducted with the support of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and its Nordic hub NORDIS (https://nordishub.eu/) and DECA, a research consortium of the Strategic Research Council of Finland (https://www.decatutkimus.fi/home).

The course, organised this spring for the third time, aims to provide a critical and contextualized approach to disinformation studies and equip students to better understand the forms, narratives, policies, and technologies of disinformation and the history and role of propaganda in authoritarian and democratic countries. Drawing from collaborations of scholars and key professional stakeholders working in disinformation and digital information literacy, the course aims to provide a holistic picture of societal, institutional, and civic/individual challenges and policy, as well as professional and civic remedies to disinformation.

The course started on 13-1-2025 and ended 12-02-2025. This year, the course gathered together 55 students from a range of disciplines.
