NORDIS partners invite Scandinavian and Ukrainian journalists to a 9-month training program

Complimentary to NORDIS main activities, Fojo Media Institute (SWE) recruits to an exciting cross-border fact-checking training program for journalists in Scandinavia and Ukraine, supported by the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF). The project focuses on acquiring and implementing fact-checking, verification and OSINT-skills in a time of GenAI. During nine months (September 2024 – May 2025) a select group of ten journalists from the Nordic countries and Ukraine are invited to a comprehensive training program, combining online and offline training, coaching and cross-border investigations. During the program, journalists are also introduced to trainers from as well as resources developed by partners in the NORDIS-consortium.

Description of the training program

Funded by the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF), Fojo Media Institute at Linnaeus university (Sweden) offers 10 spots for journalists in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Ukraine for a 9-month training program. The aim is to enhance verification and fact-checking skills as journalistic practices in different newsrooms and to encourage the development of collaborative cross-border projects.

Over the course of nine months (starting in September 2024), ten journalists will meet both online and on-spot in order to learn new skills in the area of fact-checking, verification and Open Source Intelligence. After an online introduction, the training program is kicked-off with a workshop on-site in Sweden in October 2024 with our training partners Bellingcat, CASM and Factiverse. After that, individual or joint projects are developed and coached and will be pitched to experts for possible publication in 2025.

How to apply: Please submit an online-application to https://fojo.se/faktajouren/capacity-building-in-newsrooms-verifying-facts-in-times-of-deepfakes-and-disinformation/ no later than 15 August 2024.
